General Managers Update
August '25

Ann Marie Bowyer, General Manager

As we move through August, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work happening across Bluebird Care. This month we welcomed new faces to our team, including Sarah Mossman as Deputy Manager for Newcastle & South Tyneside and Jacqueline Buller as a Live-in Care Assistant, whose passion and dedication are already making a positive impact.

We’ve also celebrated outstanding achievements, with congratulations to all those nominated in the Bluebird Care Awards and a special mention to Erin Kilford for winning the Communications and Marketing Champion award at the regional ceremony.

Our care teams continue to demonstrate the compassion, skill, and professionalism that are the heartbeat of our service, with Care Assistants in particular making a profound difference to our customers and their families each day.

In York and Scarborough, the Dementia Bus training has given our staff powerful insight into the lived experience of dementia, strengthening our ability to deliver truly person-centred care.

Looking ahead, our “Your Care Journey” campaign launches this week, helping families understand the support available at every stage of life, while our growing presence at community events and support groups ensures we remain a trusted partner in the places we serve.

Thank you all for your dedication  and continued hard work.

Celebrating Our Bluebird Care Awards Nominees!

Following this year’s Bluebird Care Awards, we’re taking a moment to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the incredible team members who were nominated.

Being nominated for a Bluebird Care Award is a fantastic achievement, recognising the dedication, compassion, and commitment shown by individuals who go above and beyond in their roles every day.

Whether it was for delivering exceptional care, showing outstanding leadership, or making a difference behind the scenes, each nomination reflects the values we’re proud to uphold as a team.

A huge well done to all those who were recognised – you inspire us all, and we’re proud to celebrate your hard work and contribution.

Winner of the Bluebird Care Award - Communication and Marketing Champion

We’re thrilled to announce that Erin Kilford, Digital Marketing Executive at Bluebird Care, has won the Communications and Marketing Champion award at the recent Bluebird Care Regional Awards 2025.

As many of you will know, we had two fantastic shortlsited nominations from within our team this year—both showcasing the outstanding talent, dedication, and impact of our people. While both shortlists were cause for celebration, it was Erin who brought home the award, recognised for her creativity, consistency, and passion in championing our brand and messaging across all platforms.

Celebrating the Heart of Bluebird Care - Our Care Teams

Every day, our care teams make a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we support. From a warm smile on a morning visit to providing complex care with compassion and dignity, the dedication of you, our Care Assistants, shines through in everything they do. Your commitment goes beyond delivering exceptional care — you bring comfort, companionship, and reassurance to customers and their families. It’s the little moments you create, as well as the essential care you provide, that make such a lasting impact. We are proud and grateful for the outstanding work you do.

What’s Been Going On

The Dementia Bus Arrives in Scarborough and York

The York and Scarborough team recently took part in a powerful and immersive Dementia Virtual Experience, delivered through a specialist mobile unit known as the Dementia Bus.

The Dementia Bus, operated by Training 2 Care, is designed to provide participants with a first-hand understanding of what it can feel like to live with dementia. The mobile unit recreates sensory challenges commonly faced by individuals with the condition – including changes in perception, confusion, communication difficulties, and physical disorientation – using a carefully controlled environment.

Looking Ahead

Our Upcoming Campaign - Your Care Journey

Bluebird Care South Tyneside is proud to announce the launch of its latest campaign, ‘Your Care Journey’, a new initiative designed to guide families through the different stages of receiving care at home. From the very first companionship visit through to 24/7 care and round the clock live-in care.

Launched this week in South Tyneside, the campaign brings to life what care at home can look like when it’s personalised, flexible, and rooted in trust. It aims to educate families on the options available long before a crisis point is reached, and to help people picture how Bluebird Care can grow with them as their needs change over time.

Community Engagement – Get Involved

As we continue to grow our presence and impact, we’re looking to involve more of our care staff in community-based initiatives, including local Dementia Cafés, support groups, and public awareness events.

These activities not only help raise awareness and support those living with dementia and other conditions, but they also help us build our brand, strengthen community ties, and showcase the amazing work our care teams do every day.

If you’re passionate about making a difference beyond day-to-day care, this is a great opportunity to get involved. Whether it’s attending an event, helping organise something locally, or simply representing Bluebird Care in your community — we’d love to hear from you.
